The Probiotic Drink, Traditionally Made with Dairy, Will Be Available In Ireland This September
Actimel, the cultured immune-boosting drink is venturing into the plant-based market with the launch of its new 100% Dairy Free Actimel shots. The new formula uses a blend of roasted almonds and oats along with two different strains of live cultures, including Actimel's own L. Casei, and essential vitamins D and B6 to support the normal function of the immune system.
The move follows several other industry giants such as Alpro, Kerry Group and Danone, who are seeking to establish themselves in the ever-growing plant based market. Actimel 100% Dairy Free uses no preservatives, colours or artificial flavours and is suitable for vegans. In keeping with the eco-friendly theme, the 100% Dairy Free bottle is also recyclable. The product will be available in two flavours: Mango Passion Fruit and Blueberry.

Dairy Alternatives Market Continues Exponential Growth
The move by Actimel to launch a plant based version of its traditionally dairy-based product follows a string of recent high profile announcements in the dairy alternatives market. Oatly, the Swedish Oat Milk brand, has now been valued at over $2 billion following the exponential growth in recent years. Nestlé have also announced a further expansion of their existing plant based milk operations. This month, the company launched a pea-milk in Brazil under its NesFit brand.
According to Swen Rabe, head of Nestlé's R&D Center in Switzerland, "Peas are one of the most environmentally friendly sources of plant-based protein, but when used alone, it can be challenging to turn them into a great-tasting beverage.
"By using our proprietary technologies, as well as our expertise in creating shelf-stable dairy products, we were able to develop a delicious pea-based beverage with a reduced sugar content when compared to similar products in the market." The company has also stated that the pea milk contains as much protein and calcium as cows milk, and is fortified with vitamins A & D.
